When it comes down to whether one has to choose between hardwood or carpet flooring, it really depends on the personal preference of that person. Both have there pros and cons plus other things to factor in like young children or the presence of pets. What we're going to discuss in the next few paragraphs are points to help you make a decision that suits you best.
Which Room?
One doesn't have to decide to be all or none so when asking this question of choosing between hardwood or carpet flooring, it wouldn't be fair to not ask, what room are we talking about? For many of us, touching a soft carpet when getting out of bed is one of the best feelings in the morning.
Do you or the kids frequently eat in the living room or den? Wherever the chances of staining a rug are high, considering a hardwood floor option may be wise for easier cleanup.
Allergies Anyone?
Do you suffer from allergies? Carpets hold dust and allergens more than a hardwood floor so choosing between hardwood or carpet flooring here should be a no brainer. Even if you vacuum often, sweeping a hardwood floor can quickly eliminate plenty of the offending things that can aggravate your condition.
What's The Weather Like?
Do you live in a cold climate? If so, a nice carpet might be nice to insulate the rooms better while also retain what heat is available better. On the extreme side though, one might need to wear boots quite often such as in a log cabin because of the cooler temps. As one could imagine here, hardwood floors are better.
Compromise?
One thing that you don't hear much of is the compromise of hardwood floors and a beautiful throw rug? Here you get the best of both worlds right? Plus one can roll up the rug in anticipation of problems that might occur such as a party or gathering that involves plenty of food and beverages. Not only that but the ability to change the rug to another style won't cost one a fortune to do compared to completely changing carpet flooring.
As you can see, we've only discussed just a few things that can help in your decision of choosing between these two options. Again, it will really come down to personal preference but hopefully we've brought up some other points you never would have thought about unless you read it here.
