The first book called “Best Practices for RAS Management and RAP” was written by Randy C. West, PhD, P.E. This book covers inventory management, pavement milling, sampling, processing, and various testing of RAP methods and recycled asphalt shingles. The other book entitled “High RAP Asphalt Pavements” is also by the same author along with a co-author Audrey Copeland PhD, P.E. and it provides information about the lessons learned from the Japan practice. This recycling was produced by using a warm mix asphalt technological process.

A recent survey conducted by the NAPA discovered that 114,000,000 tons of warm mix asphalt was produced in 2014. This figure was a 7% increase from the year 2013. What is really astounding is that there was a 577% increase from when the survey was first introduced in 2009. This survey helps to verify that using recycled materials is not only preferable and profitable but it is environmentally friendly.
